The Slow Feed Bowl

November 1, 2017

Many dogs and believe it or not, even some cats have a tendency to scoff their food at mealtimes. Labradors are infamous for their appetites, we care for many Labs that can literally inhale their food. This is why we purchased the Maze Bowl in multiple sizes! These bowls can be used with all dog and cat diets and by all ages and breeds.

Pets that eat rapidly are more likely to present with an assortment of ailments related to their speed eating including:

  • Choking

  • Vomiting

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort

  • Food bloat, which can occur from gulping food and swallowed air and is potentially life threatening

Like humans, pets who gulp their food might also not feel their satiety and therefore have an increased desire for more food, at least in the short term. This could lead to increased begging or those sad faces that make you want to give them more food or treats!

Slow feed bowls are designed to prevent gulping. They typically have ridges or other barriers that break up the bowl’s surface area, which prevents the pet from being able to inhale their food in one or two gulps. These types of bowls can help reduce the likelihood that your pet will gulp down their meals and alleviate the issues associated with fast eating.

So how do I use The Slow Feed Bowls:

Step 1 - Choose the right bowl for your pets size

Step 2 - Fill bowl with your dogs favourite food

Step 3 - Allow the dog or cat time to work out how to get the food - encourage them!

Step 4 - Lots of praise will make this game fun!

Step 5 - Once finished, wash the bowl ready for another day!

Please do are your photos and videos of these bowls in use with your pets! See out Facebook page for a video of Nelson the Lab using our Maze Bowl!
