Understanding Home Dog Grooming
A Welfare First Approach

This in-depth course helps dog owners groom safely at home while always prioritising their dog’s comfort, wellbeing, and ability to cope. Rather than focusing only on appearance, the course teaches how to recognise stress, understand coat needs, handle dogs safely, and make informed decisions about what is realistic to manage at home.

Across nine structured modules, you will learn how to create a calm grooming environment, use tools responsibly, prevent injury, and recognise when professional support is the kinder option. The course also explores maintenance versus full grooming and how grooming needs change throughout your dog’s life.

Designed for real dogs and real owners, this course builds confidence, encourages thoughtful decision-making, and supports safer, more positive grooming experiences over time.

Learn at your own pace — with your dog’s welfare at the centre of every decision.

This course is designed for real dogs and real owners. It is suitable for:

  • Owners who want to groom safely at home

  • Dogs who are anxious, sensitive, or easily overwhelmed

  • Owners unsure what is realistic to manage themselves

  • Those wanting to better understand grooming stress and body language

  • Owners preparing for professional grooming or 1:1 support

  • Dogs at any life stage — from puppies to seniors

No prior grooming experience is needed. The course builds understanding step by step and can be revisited as your dog’s needs change.

1:1 In-Person Grooming Guidance

Alongside the online course, we offer personalised 1:1 in-person lessons to help owners apply what they have learned safely and confidently. These sessions are practical, supportive, and tailored to both the dog and the owner. The focus is always on welfare, realistic expectations, and building calm, safe grooming experiences — not speed or perfection.

Sessions are suitable for beginners, owners lacking confidence, and dogs who may need a slower, more supportive approach.

Maintenance Grooming Lesson

Building Confidence in Safe, Everyday Grooming

This personalised 1:1 session is designed for owners who want to confidently manage their dog’s routine grooming at home. The focus is on safe handling, realistic expectations, and understanding how to support your dog through regular care such as brushing, bathing, drying, and nail maintenance.

Rather than aiming for a full groom, this session helps you develop the skills and confidence needed to maintain your dog comfortably between professional grooms. We work at your dog’s pace, allowing for breaks, adjustments, and welfare checks to ensure the experience remains calm and supportive.

This session is ideal for owners who are new to grooming, building confidence, or working with dogs who may be sensitive, anxious, or easily overwhelmed.
