The Behaviour&Grooming Academy

Helping you understand your dog and feel more confident caring for them at home.

Over the years, I've met so many owners who want to do more of their dog's grooming themselves but simply don't know where to start.

Some are worried about getting something wrong, others have dogs who really don't enjoy being groomed, and some would just like to save money by learning how to maintain their dog's coat at home.

That's why I created The Behaviour & Grooming Academy.

I've spent many years working as a professional groomer, alongside studying canine behaviour, training and animal wellbeing. One thing I've learnt is that knowing how to use grooming equipment is only part of the picture. Understanding the dog in front of you is just as important.

I wanted to create somewhere owners could learn both.

Learning to Groom Your Own Dog

Grooming at home doesn't have to be complicated, but there are things worth understanding before picking up a pair of clippers or attempting to trim your dog's nails. Through the Academy, I teach owners how to care for their dog's coat, use grooming equipment safely, recognise when their dog is becoming uncomfortable and work through grooming challenges without unnecessary stress.

It's not about achieving a perfect salon finish. It's about helping you feel capable and confident while making grooming a better experience for your dog.

How Can You Learn?

There are a few different ways to get started. The first being our Online Grooming Course.

Our Understanding Home Dog Grooming course covers everything from coat types and grooming equipment to safe handling, body language and everyday coat maintenance.

It's divided into nine modules, so you can work through the complete course or concentrate on particular areas you'd like help with.

1:1 Maintenance Grooming Lessons

For owners who'd prefer some hands-on guidance, we offer individual sessions covering everyday grooming tasks such as brushing, bathing, drying, nail trimming and coat maintenance.

You'll have the opportunity to practise with your own dog while receiving guidance and support.

Full Groom Coaching

If you'd like to learn how to carry out more of your dog's grooming yourself, our extended practical sessions cover the equipment, techniques and knowledge needed to work towards a complete groom at home.

We'll work through what's realistic for your dog's coat and temperament, with plenty of time for questions and practice.

Who Is the Academy For?

You don't need any previous grooming experience.

The Academy is particularly useful if you're:

  • Interested in grooming your own dog at home

  • Struggling to keep on top of brushing or coat maintenance

  • Unsure how to trim nails or handle sensitive areas

  • Living with a dog who is nervous about grooming

  • Preparing a puppy for their first grooming experiences

  • Caring for an older dog whose grooming needs are changing

  • Looking to understand your dog's behaviour and body language a little better

Whether you want to learn a few basic skills or work towards doing a complete groom yourself, there's something to help you get started.

I've created a separate website for the Academy, where you'll find full course information, what's included in each lesson, prices and booking details.

Good grooming isn't just about knowing what to do. It's also about understanding when to stop, take a break or try something different.
